FIREFIGHTERS in Pontefract will be getting their hands dirty at their annual charity car wash this month.

A crew from the country’s first ‘blue light’ station on Stumpcross Lane are joining forces with their new neighbours in the police force to soap up for a good cause.

Officers from the neighbourhood policing team (NPT) will help out at the event on September 22 at the station to raise cash for the Firefighters Charity.

Scott Limb, firefighter charity representative for Pontefract, said: “We’ve done a car wash for the last few years and it’s always gone down well.

“It’s in aid of a good charity and people might want to look around the new building if they haven’t done so already, and get their car washed at the same time.”

Last year the event raised around £600 for the charity, which helps injured and retired fire fighters, fire personnel and their families.

The car wash runs from 10am until 1pm and raffle tickets will be on sale to boost their donation to the fund.
