Inspirational teenager Libby Hanley has had a close shave with the hair clippers in support of her aunt who is battling breast cancer.

The 14-year-old Purston E-ACT Academy pupil lopped off her long brown locks after watching her aunt, Karen Hill, 36, lose her hair to chemotherapy.

Libby’s grandparents, John and Joan Hill, say they are “blown away” by the support Libby has shown their daughter.

Mrs Hill, 62, of Purston Park Court, Featherstone, said: “It just blew us away and we want her to get some recognition. She’s put herself out there and with the peer pressure at high school it’s hard for girls.”

Mr Hill, 67, added: “What Libby has done is unbelievable, it take some guts to do that.”

Libby, of Pontefract Road, Featherstone, chopped off a foot of hair and shaved the rest to a number three length.

The youngster is now donating her hair to the Prince’s Trust in the hope it will be used to make wigs for children with cancer.

Mrs Hill said: “Libby said to us, ‘I want to do it so my aunty Karen isn’t on her own with no hair.’ When I took Libby to see Karen she was amazed.”
