Town blueprint revealed at conference

A BLUEPRINT for the future regeneration of Castleford – including ambitious plans to create up to 3,000 new jobs – has been revealed to business leaders.

Wakefield Council chiefs launched the Castleford Growth Delivery Plan (CGDP) last week to more than 50 businesses at a conference in the town’s Carlton Lanes shopping centre.

People were encouraged to share their views on the plans, which outlined short-term proposals for improving the town centre, and long term goals for creating new roads, critical infrastructure, more than 2000 new homes and up to 3,000 new jobs.

Coun Denise Jeffery, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The plans include providing more jobs, new homes and better transport links and it is important to us that people get the opportunity to have their say and are kept informed at every stage of the redevelopment.”

Council leader Peter Box launched the event and conducted a question and answer session on the plans.

According to the CGDP, specific proposals include improving the Aire River Growth Corridor – the area that runs to the south of the River Aire from New Fryston to the former Lambson’s Chemical Works – by improving the junction at Lock Lane, supporting investment opportunities at the former Hickson’s chemical site, and improving links between Airedale and Fryston Village.

The plans can be viewed until tomorrow at Bridge Arts in Sagar Street from 10am to 4pm or Lock Lane Sports Centre from 9am to 8pm.

From Monday June 25, they can be viewed at Five Towns Resource Centre on Welbeck Street from 8.30am to 4.30pm until Friday June 29.

People have until July 16 to submit their views. Visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/cgdp for more information.
