Town‘s history caught on camera

Featherstone Calendar 2013

Featherstone Calendar 2013

ARE you one of these smiling, cheering faces lining the streets of Featherstone in 1952 ?

This is just one snapshot featured in an annual calendar offering a glimpse into the town’s history.

The 2013 Featherstone calendar – compiled by historians Ian Dransfield and Tony Lumb – is now available to eager collectors.

Mr Dransfield said: “It’s been on sale for a couple of months and selling well already. People buy it to send all over the world and as a keepsake.

“A lot of people have the last 27 of them and the people of Featherstone look forward to it. They can’t wait for it to come out. People are saying it’s as good as usual and they’re pleased we keep making it.”

The calendar, which is in its 28th year, was first produced by the town’s historical society.

This year it includes images of crowds welcoming home Featherstone Rovers on Station Lane, the Featherstone cricket team, colliery staff hard at work and former printer Mr Rogers.

Mr Dransfield added: “We are desperate for more photographs so if anyone has any, they can be left at my old shop on Station Lane or by contacting me.

The calendar costs £4.25 and is available at John Gray newsagents on Station Lane (formerly Dransfield’s) or by ringing Mr Dransfield on 01977 792281.
