Trio’s art show

THREE Five Towns artists will open a joint exhibition of their works at the Elizabethan Gallery in Wakefield next week.

Harry Malkin, Brian Lewis and Bob Clayden are holding the exhibition, which opens on Monday September 24 at 6pm-8pm, as part of the Wakefield Fringe Arts and Literary Festival.

Castleford sculptor Harry will be displaying material gathered from the past year during the creation of his new mining memorial at Allerton Bywater, built to commemorate the life of the pit and the 86 men and boys who died there.

The Making of a Monument includes a maquette of the piece and preliminary drawings to compliment pictures taken by Bob Clayden and Walt Portman during the process.

Pontefract writer and artist Brian’s part of the exhibition features pictures he has created during the past 12 months as part of his ambition to create 1,000 paintings in a year.

He said: “The collection will be shown in October at Dean Clough in Halifax, but because I wanted to show some of the best works in the Wakefield district, I have had drawings from three series framed for this show.”

Photographer and artist Bob will be displaying a selection of his recent works, including his ‘drawings with light’ and experiments with pin-hole cameras, along with Cyanotype silk flags and designer bags.

The exhibition, at the gallery on Brook Street, Wakefield, will also be open on Wednesday September 26 from 5pm to 9pm as part of Wakefield Artwalk.
