West Yorkshire firefighters rescue horse from Knottingley well

Waiting for Video...

A HORSE spent five days trapped down a disused well.

Firefighters rescued the two-year-old piebald horse from the 6ft by 2ft chamber on Thursday.

But it is still unclear how the animal became trapped in the well on farm land in Knottingley.

The horse was reported missing on Saturday, July 14.

Firefighters pushed cotton wool into the horse’s ears to stop it becoming distressed by the noise of the cutting equipment used during the rescue.

Firefighter Pete Owen said the rescue was the most unusual he had been involved in during 26 years of service.
