Woods clean up
LOCAL people are being urged to help clean up and maintain the area’s woodland with two events taking place in Castleford next week.
Castleford Heritage Trust and Wakefield and District Housing are holding a litter clearing day on Tuesday November 20 from 10am to 3pm around Fryston Wood as part of the Love Where You Live campaign.
Residents who come along can get involved with litter and weed clearance, tree felling and footpath clearance.
They can also sign up to be a woodland steward or for free training including willow weaving, dry stone walling, hedge laying and cycle leader training.
Children under 14 must be accompanied (and supervised) by an adult and volunteers should meet at the entrance to Fryston Woods on Kendal Drive.
Project leader Paul Roberts, woodland access ranger, and members of Friends of Fryston Woods, will be on hand to give information about the woods and to talk about residents’ concerns.
It is followed by a two-day training session in hedge laying for people aged 16 and above at Well Woods on November 21 and 22. Booking is required as places are limited and there is a £5 deposit, refunded on completion of the course, along with a certificate of achievement.
All tools and equipment will be provided, along with tea and coffee.
To book places on the hedge laying course contact Paul on 01977 556741.
