Youngsters make a splash for school
Kirk Smeaton primary school have collectively swam the distance of the English Channel
Sporty pupils at Kirk Smeaton Primary School took the
plunge and swam the distance of the English Channel.
One hundred youngsters from the school collectively swam 21 miles, the distance between England and France, at Askern swimming pool last Wednesday to raise money for school funds.
The event, organised by chairman of governors Marjory Young, took the children around three hours to complete and raised more than £2,000.
Kirsty Allan, year five and six teacher, said: “It was a fantastic event. The children really enjoyed it and they were all really happy. Everyone took part and they actually ended up swimming more than the distance of the channel. The youngest children swam widths and we had one year six girl who swam more than 100 lengths.”
The event raised £2,240.40 in total which will be used to help pay for resources, books, new computers and trips.
