Parking charges are set to rise at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals – which runs Pontefract Hospital – from April 1.

The cost of parking for one hour will remain the same (£1.30), parking for one to two hours will rise by 10p to £2.70, two to four hours will also rise by 10p to £4, and parking for four to 24 hours rises by 20p to £6.70.

Concessions remain in place giving four hours’ free parking to blue badge holders, and long stay discounts, giving seven days’ parking for a one-day rate.

Ian Brodie, head of facilities, said: “We try to keep car parking charges as low as possible and in line with other hospitals across the region. Unfortunately we do need to review costs against increases in inflation and these changes reflect that.

“We continue to offer a range of concessions and reduced rates for our patients, including long-stay discounts, reduced rate permits for relatives or carers of patients on units such as critical care and cancer patients.”

There are also changes to staff parking, with the monthly permit charge for staff on lower pay bands falling by five per cent, for staff on middle bands there will be a five per cent increase, while higher pay bands will see a 16 per cent increase.

Mr Brodie added: “We carried out a survey with our staff and found that a large number of staff thought that introducing a sliding scale was a good idea. We are introducing this new system to reduce the impact of rise in inflation on lower paid workers and this will see a reduction in charges for those staff.”
