A Pontefract law firm has helped raise nearly £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by holding a will writing week.

Anne Caswell of Carters Solicitors on Ropergate joined forces with the charity by offering her time to clients wishing to make a will during the first week of February.

Clients paid no fee to the firm, but instead made a voluntary suggested donation of £90 for a single will and £135 for a mirror will to Macmillan, with some making even bigger donations.

Anne said: “I would personally like to thank those people who came to Carter’s to make their wills and who made a donation to Macmillan. I met some lovely people, many of whose lives have been affected by cancer.

“I like to think that our combined efforts will go some way to helping teh charity to continue to provide support to families at a very difficult time.”

Maria Amos, fundraising manager at Macmillan, said: “We were overwhelmed by the response to this project. Anne found herself with back-to-back appointments all week, working late into the evening to complete all the necessary paperwork.

“I am sincerely grateful to the team at Carter’s for all the hard work which went into making this a success, and of course to everyone who took part in the scheme and made a donation to Macmillan.

“Their contributions will allow us to continue to provide much needed services to cancer patients and their families.”

Carter’s has already agreed to host the scheme again in early 2014, and any other solicitors’ firm interested in getting involved in a similar scheme can contact Maria on mamos@macmillan.org.uk or call 07834 191243.
