A Purston maths graduate has been awarded a prestigious national prize after coming top of her class.
Lucy Tye, 21, of Wentbridge Road, has won the award from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), after graduating top of her class from Bolton University with a first class BSc (Hons) in maths.
Lucy said: “It was a surprise when I found out, I knew for a week or two that I’d got a first, and I’m very pleased.”
The award gives Lucy a certificate and a year’s membership of the IMA, andshe added: “It’s brilliant. I feel proud that somebody has honoured the fact I didn’t just do well, I did really well.”
Lucy is now going on to study a PGCE in September at Manchester University, with the aim of becoming a teacher.
