Work to upgrade the M62 motorway to a managed motorway has moved a step nearer completion.

Overhead electronic signs - displaying variable speed limits and lane closure information - between junction 26 at Chain Bar and junction 27 at Gildersome.

The speed limit will remain at 50mph until the whole section between junctions 25 and 30 are completed later this year.

David Pilsworth, Highways Agency project manager, said: “By activating the signs along this stretch now, we will be able to manage traffic flows and incidents more effectively while we complete the final stages of work.”

The hard-shoulder on the stretch will remain coned off initially.

The scheme is expected to be completed later this year.
