A man was rescued from the top of a shipping container after heavy rain caused flooding.

Firefighters were called to Half Moon Lane in Kirkthorpe on Saturday.

Crews from Wakefield, Rothwell, Leeds and Normanton used a water sled to rescue the man who had climbed on top of the container.

The police helicopter was also called to the scene and provided aerial lighting during the rescue.

The incident followed torrential rain on Saturday, which caused flooding across West Yorkshire.
