Two men were rescued from the River Aire at Knottingley on Tuesday night after their inflatable dinghy capsized.
Pontefract fire crews were called to a stretch of the river, off Forge Hill Lane, in Knottingley, at just after 5pm to reports of men in the water.
The pair had gone out in a rubber dinghy, but it had overturned in the water. They were helped out of the water by a passer-by, who raised the alarm.
A fire spokeswoman said the men were out of the water by the time crews arrived on the scene. Both men were taken to hospital suffering from possible hypothermia and shock.
The spokeswoman issued a warning to people not to go onto the water without proper equipment or training.
