The Met Office has warned of ice across the Wakefield district tonight (Friday).

Forecasters said rain showers are expected this afternoon before temperatures drop below freezing.

The Met Office said: “Outbreaks of rain will clear to scattered showers by Friday evening with temperatures then falling quickly allowing icy stretches to develop on untreated surfaces, especially where sheltered from the westerly winds.

“Showers will become increasingly wintry overnight, some heavy with hail over Scotland and adding to the ice risk but fresh lying snow will be confined to hills.

“The public should be aware of the risk of icy stretches on roads and pavements.”
