It was smiles all around for staff and youngsters as they celebrated the conversion of a Castleford school to an academy.
Children at Castleford Park Junior Academy joined in the countdown and held the red ribbon as it was snipped to declare the Medley Street school open earlier this month.
The school will hold a special a celebration day later in the year to mark joining the Castleford Academy Trust.
Bill Clift, chairman of trustees at the Trust and governors and chairman of the school, said: “The head of both Castleford Academy and Park Juniors are looking forward to sharing the resources and experience that has made Castleford Academy such a successful school over many years.
“We are totally committed to working together to enhance the education of our children.”
Castleford Park Junior School was deemed ‘satisfactory’ at its last Ofsted inspection in May 2011 and applied to convert under a sponsored arrangement with the Trust to help improve its progress.
Wakefield Council’s cabinet approved the academy conversion plans last December.
