Police and firefighters have moved in together at Castleford’s newly-refurbished fire station which bosses say will improve blue light service.
The move was formalised yesterday by West Yorkshire Chief Fire Officer Simon Pilling and West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson at a ‘handshake celebration’ last week.
The town’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) is now sharing office space with its firefighters at Beancroft Road.
Insp Dave Bugg of the NPT said: “This gives us an opportunity to work really closley with the fire service and do lots of collaborative work. If there’s any issues we can follow them there and then as we are in the same building.”
Steven Kain, fire station commander added: “It’s exciting. We are looking forward to working closely with Insp Bugg and closer collaboration between the two services.”
The scheme is designed to cut costs during a period where both services have been asked to slash millions from their budgets.
