Pavement parking row

IN answer to Eric Hurst (Express Letters March 22) with reference to cars parking on the pavement at the top end of Carlton Street in Castleford.

I was very surprised that the traffic warden and community police officer were not aware that it is an offence to park on any pavement regardless of size. Pavements are for pedestrians.

There are strict guidelines in the Highway Code about this, and a mandatory fine of £30?

The fine may have changed, but that is what it used to be, it may be more now.

I have every sympathy with anyone wishing to use the pavement in question so maybe the chief constable could confirm the situation for him, and stop this illegal parking on all the pavements.
