DELIGHTED Knottingley children received a donation from their local shop to help pay for a special Christmas trip.

Rashad Zaman and Omar Farooq, managers at the Nisa Local convenience store, on Pinewood Place, donated £343.80 to the town’s Old Quarry Adventure Playground, which runs activities and clubs for children from the Warwick Estate.

The father and son business team started donating one penny from selected items towards the Christmas trip fund after they took over the shop last year.

Mr Farooq, 21, said: “We wanted to raise money for the playground because the children and their parents have given us a lot of custom and it is great to give something back. We will start fundraising again now for next year.”

Holly Ellis, centre operations manager at the Sycamore Avenue playground, said: “We are so grateful for this money, it is so important for the playground and the local shops to work together.

“The children are so excited. We hope we will be able to take them on a trip to the theatre – something they might not have done before – as a special Christmas treat.”
