An elderly man had to be rescued from his boat on the River Aire at Castleford after a fall.
The man lost control of the steering on the small cruiser on Wednesday October 2 following the fall, and the boat drifted along the river until it got stuck in the weir protection buoys behind Savile Road.
Firefighters from Castleford and a water rescue team from Wakefield were called to help him at about 3.45pm. The water rescue crew went into the water to get to the boat and help the man, and so the boat could be pulled to shore – it took around 25 minutes to rescue the man.
The man was the only person aboard the boat. He was taken to hospital, with an injury to his leg.
