EGG-CITED shoppers scrambled to crack the mystery of the fried egg-scapee who sprinted through Pontefract town centre this morning (March 30).
The egg-straordinary sighting saw the larger-than-life Haribo sweet make a bid for freedom towards Southgate at around 11am before being snared in a net and bundled into a white van.
Sensing this was no yolk, the Express tracked the Haribo hunters down as they launch a national tour which will see members of the public being urged to help get the naughty treat – dubbed the “Eggstra” – back in its bag in time for Easter.
Louise Morrison, brand communications manager at Haribo, said: “This is no yolk. We need help in tracking the Eggstra down, it’s egg-joying its freedom far too much.
“We know that the Eggstra likes to be the centre of attention and Pontefract is certainly one of its favourite places – so we hope shoppers will have a cracking time spotting and tweeting pictures of our tasty treat.”
Members of the public are being encouraged to tweet a picture of the giant fried friend with the hashtag #HariboEggHunt for the chance to win a prize.
The Eggstra’s antics can be followed on twitter @hariboeggstra or to find its location go to www.hariboegghunt.co.uk to track the treat’s live journey across Pontefract.
