ON Sunday January 15 I took my son to Knottingley Sports Centre, swimming.
Nothing unusual there you may be thinking, but as my son has learning difficulties, this is no mean feat!
My son is 23-year-old and 6ft 5ins so the only option open to me was to take him in the disabled toilet to get changed, as I explained to the pleasant girl on reception, so off we went.
As we came out of the toilet, we were met by a member of staff called Nic, a lovely, smiley, young woman, she explained to me that she had spoken to the manager and it was agreed that I could take my son in the ladies’ changing room, where I could also lock away our belongings.
She then took Jonathan on to the poolside and waited until I came out, I could hear her talking to him and reassuring him.
I would just like to say that this young lady made what could have been a very difficult time, into a pleasant time in the pool.
I would like to thank the staff at Knottingley Sports Centre, they are lovely, in these days of doom and gloom, it’s so nice to be able to say something good!
