EXCITED pupils at Badsworth CE J&I School celebrated the launch of a new programme with a special visit from an Olympic high jumper.

Brendan Reilly – who competed for Great Britain in the 1992 and 2000 Olympic Games – launched the Be the Best You Can Be! programme which will teach children to have the determination of an athlete.

Matthew Letham, headteacher, said: “The day was fantastic, Brendan really inspired to the pupils by talking about his Olympic journey and the challenges he had to overcome to compete.

“We hope the programme will help our pupils grow in confidence and teach them to strive for their goals and what they believe in.”

Year five pupils will have the Olympic-themed modules set out in the programme – created by educational charity the 21st Century Legacy – taught alongside their national curriculum lessons.

Teachers at the Main Street school received special training for the programme which will culminate in an awards ceremony where children who have achieved their goals will receive medallions.
