RUGBY fans gave their heroes a pre-match boost when Castleford Tigers players went public with the Challenge Cup.
Captain Danny Orr and squad member Brett Ferres, who also plays in the England squad, took the 3ft high solid siver trophy to Xscape last Wednesday, before Tigers’ triumphant Challenge Cup clash against Wakefield Wildcats on Saturday.
They were joined by former star Bob Beardmore, who scored the winning drop goal and collected the Lance Todd trophy during Castleford’s last Challenge Cup triumph in 1986.
Fans of all ages queued to see the cup, have autographs signed and have their pictures taken with their idols.
Dan Wharton, marketing manager at Xscape, said: “It went really well, fans turned out to come and see the players.
“It was a nice opportunity to get the cup here, especially with the result that weekend.”
He said he hoped more local teams would follow suit and appear at Xscape before big games, adding: “It’s good for us and good for the community.”
