Hundreds of people will take to the streets of Ackworth in April as the village’s half marathon returns for the first time in seven years.

Ackworth Road Runners will hold the event on Sunday, April 12 as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

For the first time, the race will start and finish at Ackworth Water Tower event field.

Colin Tanswell, club secretary, said: “We decided to bring it back because of popular demand.

“We’ve had a number of people asking club members if it was going to come back and saying they miss it.”

The race will take a new circular route from the water tower through Wentbridge and Darrington.

Mr Tanswell, who founded the club 30 years ago, said: “We’re hoping it will be a popular race because there is an awful lot of interest now there are Park Runs across the area.

“We’re really pleased to see the race back in the village.”
