With St Valentine’s Day this week, The Shoulder of Mutton pub at Methley Road in Castleford is celebrating in style on Saturday February 12.

Local acoustic guitar duo Keystone present their Songbola show, where the audience actually choose the songs. The fun starts early and all proceeds go to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Boy band attraction Boyz Aloud appear locally this weekend with a Sunday night appearance at Moorthorpe Empire Club in prospect. These guys really are terrific and popular with the female of the species, so be early!

Ladybalk Social Club in Pontefract was in a very bad way quite recently, with its very future in jeopardy. I spoke to new club official Mal Cunningham a few weeks ago when I visited. Mal subsequently e-mailed me with the news that the future of the club has now been assured and that the intention was the restart an entertainment programme.

Club star Darren Yorke kicks off live entertainment at the club on Friday nights with an appearance on February 18. I will be revealing more about this in this column over the next few weeks, so watch this space for more details.

There has been lots of interest in the forthcoming tribute to Tony Wayne, a concert to mark Tony’s retirement from the stage.

The big night for this Kinsley-born entertainer is February 24 and in last week’s column I listed all the acts involved. I can now reveal that comedy acts Funnybones, Ashley Jakkman and The Big G will also appear on the night, which is staged at Crigglestone WMC near Wakefield. Anyone planning to travel over from the Pontefract and Castleford Express area to see the show may wish to know that admission is free and on a first-come, first-served basis.

It’s star night at Pontefract Sports and Social Club next Friday February 18 as Take That tribute act Back 4 Good are the main attraction. Admission is just a fiver and the club is sure to be busy for this one, so don’t be late!

It’s comedy time at Girnhill Lane Club in Featherstone this weekend as Wakefield twin boy duo Sharp Experience take the stage. These lads have worked very hard on their act lately and they have attracted attention from some very good agents, so why not go along and have a look?

Local lass Carol Lee makes the short journey to Hopetown Liberal Club in Normanton this weekend on Sunday to work with the live musicians there.

Mill Lane Club in South Kirkby is having a change from Saturday night rock bands this weekend as the highly rated singer Debbie Dee takes the stage. Debbie has lots of fans in clubland, so be early and enjoy this lovely entertainer.

Top duos like Night Flight, Top Secret and Devious are all popping up on stage in the next few weeks at The B&S Club in Featherstone. I am a fan of Devious in particular. This popular Barnsley-based act have something for all audiences and age groups, and they appear at the B&S Club on March 4.

Wakefield duo Two Steps Forward are always a treat on any club stage and Ferrybridge Progressive Club is set to welcome this bonny pair this weekend for a Sunday show. Other hot acts at Ferrybridge this month include Charlie Rox. This lively girl duo pop up on stage there on February 19.
