ENERGETIC pupils raced around King’s School in Pontefract to raise cash for Breast Cancer Care UK.
More than 1,000 students ran 3km around the Mill Hill Lane school’s grounds in the sponsored event, to raise funds for the national charity during its annual breast cancer awareness month.
Pupils could also wear pink clothes if they donated £1 to the charity. Some of the money raised will also go towards funding extra-curricular activities at the school.
Head of year seven Jonty Leason, who organised the event, said: “The afternoon was an excellent way to finish the half term, with some pupils racing competitively and a large majority just joining in the carnival atmosphere.
“All the emphasis was on the fun run. Last year we aimed to raise around £4,000 so this year we hope to do the same.
“Children who did not want to do the run held a sponsored silence so everyone was involved in the fundraising in some way.”
