An insurance broker is swapping the office for the Sahara in memory of a Pontefract tot who lost his battle with cancer.

Jon Newall, 37, is hoping to raise £4,000 by trekking 115km across the North African desert for the Families Against Neuroblastoma charity.

Mr Newall, of Carleton Road, Pontefract, was inspired to raise money for the cause after his company sponsored an awards night in memory of two-year-old Jaiden Worrall, who died from the disease last October.

The dad-of-one said: “You only have to read Jaiden’s story to know why to donate. I was horrified at how aggressive neuroblastoma is, he didn’t even have chance to live his life. That’s why we need to help raise money for research into this disease.”

Mr Newall, who runs Lockyers in Wakefield, leaves on Saturday and has already raised £2,500 towards the charity, which helps families get life-saving operations abroad. Visit www.justgiving.com/jon-newall to donate.
