TWO hundred Santas delighted Christmas shoppers as they dashed through Pontefract to raise cash for the town’s Prince of Wales Hospice.
Fundraisers in festive spirit and Santa costumes ran from the Halfpenny Lane hospice into the town centre on Sunday morning, raising nearly £5,000 for the care centre.
Hospice supporters took part in a zumba-inspired warm up before setting off on the two-and-a-half-mile circular route past town landmarks including the Buttercross, museum and magistrates’ court.
Helen Wells, the hospice’s event fundraiser said: “Special thanks go to the 200 dashers, to event sponsors Haribo and to all the volunteers and West Yorkshire Police who helped safely manage the event.
“The hospice’s heating bill for a month in winter last year was £1,200 so it really puts it in perspective how we can positively use dashers’ hard earned sponsorship this Christmas.”
Everyone who completed the route received a medal and refreshments were provided by Asda, Morrisons and the hospice.
