STAFF at Castleford’s Three Lane Ends Primary School are appealing to local businesses to help fund two special projects which will prepare youngsters for the grown-up world.

The Methley Road school needs to raise more than £2,000 so its year six pupils can take part in Our World Day and the Reaching for Success project.

Our World Day – organised by education charity Young Enterprise UK – teaches children about the world’s economy, and the Reaching for Success project tells youngsters about further education, culminating in a trip to York University.

Katie Greatorex, assistant head, said: “We endeavour to teach our pupils about economic well being and to raise their aspirations for the future.

“Our World Day has run for a couple of years at the school and we have been able to afford it, but with new budgets this year we want to ask local businesses to help.

“The day gives children an understanding of the world of work and team building, which is very important for children when they grow up and go into the workplace.

“We want to take part in the Reaching for Success project for the first time because we think will raise the aspirations of the children and show them the possibilities of studying outside school.

“We always teach our pupils to aim as high as possible.”
