Second woman dies after head-on smash

A SECOND woman from Allerton Bywater has died after a head-on collision between two cars in Leeds.

The 43-year-old, who was left fighting for her life after the smash on the A656 near Micklefield last Tuesday (April 5), died in the early hours of this morning. She has yet to be named by police.

Helen Julia Gray, 39, also from Allerton Bywater, died at the scene after the Ford Fiesta she was travelling in collided with a VW Golf.

Four other people were injured in the crash and all had to be cut free from the wreckage.

A 40-year-old man from London, who was driving the VW Golf, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 49-year-old man, and another female passenger, 18, were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Golf and a 15-year-old male passenger were taken to hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening.
