A HEALTHY recipe for success has been cooked up by award-winning kitchen staff at Ferrybridge Roundhill Primary School.
Dinner ladies Janet Garbett, Donna Roberts, Nicola Green and Dawn Doughty received an Eatwell award – for promoting healthier choices on the Hampden Close school’s menu – during a special assembly on Tuesday.
Headteacher Elaine Murthick said: “We are delighted to have won this award.
“Our kitchen staff work hard to ensure the children are given a nutritious and healthy meal, and I can say that from first hand experience, they are delicious.”
Amanda Wetton, area manager for Kingswood Catering which provides the school dinners, nominated the kitchen staff for the award which was presented to them by Tim Whitaker, community food worker at Wakefield District Community Healthcare Services.
Catering staff and businesses are assessed for the Eatwell awards by Wakefield District NHS and Wakefield Council’s environmental health department.
Steve McGuiness, Kingswood Catering service manager, said: “I am very proud of the team at Roundhill for achieving this award, it demonstrates the importance of healthy eating and the hard work the staff have put in.
“I encourage all schools across the district to aim to achieve the high standards needed to receive the EatWell award and we will continue to work with schools to provide children with balanced and healthy food choices.”
