WOMEN across the Five Towns are being invited to join the fight against cancer by taking part in this year’s Cancer Research UK Race for Life in Pontefract.
Entries for the 5k and 10k events – at Pontefract Park on Sunday July 22 – are now open and the charity is calling on women of all ages to sign up.
The women-only event is part of a nationwide series of races which raise millions of pounds every year for life-saving research into 200 types of cancer.
Nicola Jones, Cancer Research UK’s Yorkshire and Humber events manager, said: “Please enter Race for Life in Pontefract – it’s all of us versus cancer and we need you to join the fight as soon as possible.
“We know many women want to take part in Race for Life but are worried they won’t be able to complete the course.
“We want to reassure them that Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.
“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun.”
Last year, 3,000 women took part in the Pontefract event – raising £156,000 – and this year organisers want 3,100 women to step out and raise £157,000 for vital research.
Pontefract is one of 35 venues across the UK where participants can choose to enter the traditional 5k Race for Life or select the 10k route when they register, without having to pay an additional entry fee.
