Youngsters at Streethouse Primary School were in a whirl when a navy helicopter dropped in for a flying visit.
Teaching assistant Sally Forrester arranged the surprise with her brother Alastair Haigh, commander of the navy’s Yeovilton helicopter squadron.
He flew the helicopter through the village and landed it on the school field before children were given the chance to take a closer look at it.
Mrs Forrester said: “The children absolutely loved it. I think they will live on it for the rest of the term.
“It’s been a wonderful opportunity for them to see something they may never otherwise get the chance to.”
Children from years one to six sat in the helicopter and the crew joined them for lunch afterwards.
Mrs Forrester added: “The children also learnt about the helicopter and the work the crew does.
“As the helicopter left, it did a circle round the village then came back and bowed to the children. It was a fantastic day.”
