AIREDALE Academy student Busiso Sibanda has helped swell the coffers of Pontefract Family Centre after organising a charity event at school.
Busiso, 16, came up with the idea of a non-uniform day, which raised £723 for the Harropwell Lane centre, which helps adults with learning difficulties and for the school’s hardship fund.
She handed over the money at the end of term last week.
Busiso said: “Students could bring a pound to come in non-uniform, and we also did a lot of activities to promote the day, and I got in touch with the family centre, which helped us as well.
“I chose the family centre as I did some volunteering there and I thought it would be good to help out a local charity.”
Busiso, who has just completed her GCSEs and will be going to NEW College in September to study for her A levels, had originally gone along to support a friend who wanted to do some fundraising, but ended up taking over the challenge herself.
She added: “If I can do something to help a charity, I will.”
