YOUNGSTERS at Pontefract’s Orchard Head Primary School ploughed through the pages to complete a summer reading challenge.
Around 35 pupils from the Orchard Head Lane school took part in the national event which encouraged children to read six books of their choice during the summer school holidays.
Beth Jenkinson, literacy co-ordinator at the school, said: “Everyone involved did fantastically well and it is so important to promote an initiative like this which encourages children to read.”
Linda Middleton, children’s librarian at Pontefract Library, said: “The challenge keeps the children interested in reading and keeps their minds active which is important when they have a break from school.
“It has been a wonderful success this year, we have gone from strength to strength with almost 400 children from different schools joining in the challenge.”
Pontefract Library had 277 pupils aged between four and 11 complete the challenge and they will receive medals and certificates at school presentation ceremonies.
