DETERMINED fundraiser Chris Hartley is facing a hair-raising challenge this month to help raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer.

Mr Hartley, of Dunderdale Crescent, Castleford, is growing and grooming a moustache during November to raise cash for men’s cancer charities.

The 30-day fundraising event – dubbed Movember – asks men to register on the Movember UK website with a clean shaven face and collect sponsorship as their facial hair grows.

Mr Hartley, 34, an engineer at a firm in Leeds, said: “This year my family had a cancer scare and I knew raising money for this cause was important.

“I wasn’t able to complete the challenge due to work commitments last year, but this year 60 employees at my company are taking part and we are all very determined to see it through.”

Campaigners are encouraged to draw attention to their moustaches with varying styles and lengths to generate conversations that will draw attention to the men’s health problems.

Mr Hartley added: “I’m hoping to go for a military style with handlebars.”
