KITCHEN staff at a Castleford primary school have cleaned up with awards for excellent food and hygiene standards.
Sharron Causier, Lyn Clegg and Gillian Jackson at Wheldon Road Infant and Nursery School received a five star rating award for food hygiene after a surprise inspection from Wakefield Council’s environmental health team last month.
The accolade follows the Francis Street school’s canteen team receiving an Eat Well award for healthy menu choices last year.
Mrs Causier, kitchen manager, said: “We already had a five star rating from 2010 but we had a week’s warning before that inspection.
“This time the inspector just turned up but thankfully we always maintain high standards of food hygiene.
“We are all very pleased to receive this award, it recognises the hard work that goes into preparing the school meals.”
Mrs Causier – who has worked at the school for 15 years – added: “I couldn’t have done it without the help of my team.
“It certainly makes getting out of bed easier when you know you are appreciated.”
