An Allerton Bywater blues-rock band is launching its debut album at the Cockpit in Leeds this month – made on a budget of just £50.

The Red Shades, a three-piece outfit which has been together for just over a year, has put out its first release Shake Your Bones, which is available now on iTunes and Amazon.

The ten-track album will be officially launched at the gig at the Cockpit in Leeds on July 20.

The band comprises Dom Bennison, 22, on lead guitar and vocals, his brother Matt, 25, on drums and bassist Cam Beattie.

Dom, of Brigshaw Lane, said: “The only thing we paid for was a room to put the drums in. We have built up a collection of equipment of the years, as Matt and I have been in bands since I was 14, so we had enough to do everything ourselves.”

The band, which cites Led Zeppelin and 70s rock as an influence, has built up a loyal following while gigging around Leeds, and has received airplay on BBC Radio Leeds.

Tickets for the gig cost £4.
