Thieves have stolen metal signs worth hundreds of pounds from a Pontefract business.

The eight signs were taken from Reg Greenwood Exhausts and Tyres, Knottingley Road, on June 21.

The boards, which were advertising a variety of services offered by the business, were worth around £800.

Jeanette Brain, shop manager, said: “The signs were riveted to the wall and the thieves have somehow taken them off. We found out from a breakdown driver because someone saw them prising them off the walls and reported it to him. The thieves probably stole them for scrap metal because they look like aluminium even though they weren’t.

“It is still costing us about £700 or £800 to replace the signs and they will take about four weeks to make, which is losing us business in the meantime. The police thought they had found them so we didn’t order new ones straight away, but it turned out they were not ours.”

The theft is being investigated by the Pontefract and Knottingley neighbourhood police team (NPT).

Anyone with any information should contact the NPT on 101.
