POLICE raided the flat of a suspected heroin and crack cocaine dealer in Castleford on Friday.

The raid, at Smawthorne Lane, took place after a tip-off from the community that the man was dealing class A drugs and cultivating cannabis at the first floor flat.

The man was not at the flat and a search failed to find any class A drugs. However, a small amount of cannabis was found, along with steroids and syringes, as well as equipment for the cultivation of heroin.

PC Liam Gallagher, of Castleford neighbourhood policing team (NPT), said: “We would have liked to have found more, but something is better than nothing. It will provide us with a basis for an investigation.

“Where we have had intelligence from the community, it’s always nice for them to see when that information has borne through for us.”

Insp Dave Bugg, of the NPT, added: “Drug dealing links heavily to crime in the area, and the NPT has an undertaking that we will tackle this alongside the issues the community highlights for us.

“We would encourage as many people as possible to carry on giving us this intelligence.”
