Staff at a pre-school are celebrating after getting top marks from education inspectors.
Ofsted rated the Sunshine Kids pre-school in Pontefract as ‘Outstanding’ in its latest report.
Inspectors praised “highly committed” and “extremely nurturing” staff for their knowledge and relationships with the children at the nursery.
The pre-school, based at Central Methodist Church in Pontefract, was rated ‘Outstanding’ overall.
Manager Julie Smith said: “It was a team effort. I’m really proud of all the staff. I’m just so proud of them and all their effort and commitment.
“They have put in 100 per cent into this place. We strive all the time to be the best that we can be.”
The nursery was also judged to be ‘Outstanding’ in every category that was assessed by inspectors.
The Ofsted report, published on June 11, said: “Staff find out about children’s personalities, play interests and ways in which they engage with other children and the environment. They know children incredibly well and are extremely nurturing in their care. Children settle exceptionally quickly and form very close and trusting relationships with all staff.”
Inspectors said that staff at the nursery prepare children for school by helping them develop new skills.
The report said: “Children thoroughly enjoy their play and are motivated learners.
“They make excellent progress from their starting points. Children benefit greatly from the opportunity to spend time in small groups, where they build up their confidence and self-assurance.
“Children develop many skills to prepare them emotionally for their move on to school.”
