UPDATED: Detectives releases CCTV image after sexual assault in Pontefract

Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault in Pontefract have released a CCTV image of a man they would like speak to in connection with the incident.

Police said a 54-year-old woman was approached from behind, hit and dragged to floor before being sexually assaulted on Queen Street at around 10.55pm on Wednesday.

The victim managed to attract the attention of a passing car and the suspect fled the scene.

He is described as white, in his late 30s to early 40s, between 5ft 11ins and 6ft tall, with short dark hair.

The victim was taken to hospital with head injuries.

Det Supt Simon Beldon of West Yorkshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said:“Our enquiries remain ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who saw this offence or who saw a man matching the suspect description to come forward.

“If you recognise the person in the image or have any information which could assist us in our investigations, I would urge you to call us immediately.”
