Record numbers of movie fans flocked to Castleford last weekend as turbo-charged film convention Knightcon revved back into town.

More than 24,000 people caught a glimpse of a convoy of classic and cult movie cars at the Xscape leisure complex in Glass Houghton on Saturday.

This year’s line up included Transformers’ Optimus Prime along with a 30ft marshmallow man from the film Ghostbusters.

Dan Wharton, marketing manager for Xscape, said: “This year’s Knightcon was a massive success. It was very, very busy. We had 24,574 people at the event on Saturday which is an Xscape record.

“We were really pleased with the turnout and thank everyone for coming.”
