Police in Pontefract are urging people to make sure their cars are locked after four thefts from insecure cars on the same night.

Electrical items, including an iPad tablet computer, were stolen from cars parked in the New Hall Road and Abbey Gardens area overnight on Saturday.

Insp Geoff Carter, of Pontefract and Knottingley neighbourhood policing team, said: “It’s quite rare to get crimes like this in this area but all four cars targeted on Saturday night were left unlocked.

“Please make sure you lock your vehicles and take all valuables out when you park up.

“If you do have to leave valuables in your car put them out of sight or ideally in the boot.”

Police are appealing for anyone with any information or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Saturday to get in touch.

Insp Carter added: “Leaving valuables on show and leaving your vehicle unlocked dramatically increases your risk of being the victim of a crime.”
