A brave young woman who is battling cancer finally had her dream wedding last week, thanks to Express readers.
Rachel Moxon, 22, and her childhood sweetheart, Jason Palfreyman, 25, captured readers’ hearts to win the Express Win Your Wedding competition last year.
The couple, of School Road in Pontefract, won the £5,000 prize with 900 votes and married last Saturday in a ceremony attended by 90 close friends and relatives, at King’s Croft Hotel in Pontefract.
Jane Moxon, Rachel’s mum, said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day.
“She looked absolutely stunning.
“We pulled out all the stops to make sure she had the special day she deserves.”
Rachel met Jason on the social networking site, Bebo, when she was 16.
When they realised they lived around the corner from each other, they began to date, and romance blossomed.
But when Rachel was just 18, she received the devastating news that she had ovarian cancer and underwent a full hysterectomy.
Following the operation Rachel went into remission but 18-months-later she was told her cancer had returned and she would have to have more treatment.
Mrs Moxon said: “ Rachel had a scan four weeks ago and the disease is now stable.
“She’s taking special chemotherapy drugs to keep it at bay.
“After everything the couple have been through it was fantastic that her wedding day was so special.”
Rachel said her wedding day was the best day of her life.
She said: “Because of what we’ve been through it meant the world to me to be able to marry Jason.
“We love each other so much. He’s stood by me no matter what when he could have run away.
“Winning the wedding has been absolutely fantastic. We never thought we’d win.
“I just want to thank everyone who voted, you made our dream come true.”
