Work to improve Castleford town centre has been delayed until next year.

Wakefield Council unveiled plans earlier this year to spend £560,000 to alter Carlton Street and Sagar Street to help attract more shoppers.

But in a recent report by Coun Denise Jeffery, deputy leader of Wakefield Council and cabinet member for economic growth and skills, she said: “Due to problems with the sub-structure of Sagar Street, works have taken longer than expected.

“Carlton Street will now commence in the New Year.”
