YOUNG people from schools in Pontefract and Ackworth entertained the crowds as part of a special event to mark Armed Forces Day and the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion.
Pupils from primary and secondary schools sang as part of the commemoration held at Pontefract’s Buttercross last Thursday.
Brian Berry, secretary of Ackworth and Pontefract Royal British Legion branch, said: “The main emphasis is trying, and succeeding, in getting the young people involved.
“The young people in Pontefract are very keen and we didn’t have to twist any arms to get them involved.”
The celebration also involved a short service led by the Rev Bob Cooper, vicar of Pontefract’s St Giles’ Church and standard bearers from the Royal British Legion and service associations were on parade.
Mr Berry added: “The main part of the day was to boost the profile of the Royal British Legion.”
