Youngsters race for charity

Children at Rookeries Carleton J&I School went on the run for charity when they held their own version of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life on Friday.

The whole school dressed in pink and took part in a one-mile fun run, with children raising money through sponsorship for the charity.

Gemma Bardauskas, PE co-ordinator, said: “It was a lovely day, the weather was gorgeous, we had cheerleaders to do the opening and then we did a full school zumba warm-up before the run. Afterwards we let off some balloons.

“The children all loved it and want to do it again, so that’s a diary date, and hopefully we’ll be doing it every year now.”

The school is still collecting sponsorship, but is hoping to have raised xxx.
