Letter - Help is now needed for Legion

The Royal British Legion (Ackworth and Pontefract Branch) would like to say thank you to the people of Ackworth and Pontefract.

Thank you for your generosity during the Poppy Appeal. Thanks to you all we have almost reached our target of £25,000.

So far we have banked £24,750 and there is still time to reach out goal before the account is closed for the current year. This is a great result.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped us with our collections in the supermarkets. Without you it would not have been possible. Many thanks to the two boys who asked for ‘A penny for the guy’ outside Morrisons supermarket and then

donated their takings to our Poppy Appeal. Well done lads.

Our Poppy Appeal organisers, Andy and Sandra Page, are retiring from their post because of other commitments. They have been terrific and it is good to see that in their final appeal they have beaten previous records.

Now we need someone to fill their boots. It won’t be easy, but it will be a worthwhile challenge for someone who enjoys organising. Might you be that person? You don’t have to be a member of The British Legion, but you will need organising ability and motivation.

There is no salary but you will have the satisfaction of helping the number one Service charity.

If you would like to know more about this vital voluntary role please ring our outgoing organisers, Andy or Sandra on Pontefract 793820.
